If you're a League of Legends player, you probably know the struggle of being stuck in the low rank. It can be extremely irritating to keep trying your hardest, and not seeing any results. But have you ever wondered, what else you can do to rank up besides throwing your keyboard at the wall? In this article we’re going to try and help you reach your goal, so sit comfortably and take notes!

First, let’s do a small introduction for new players, or literally anyone who wants to get to know more about ranks and divisions in League of Legends.

What are ranks in League of Legends  and how do they work?

Ranks are probably the most competitive part of the whole game. They let other players determine how good of a player you are. The rank is basically your player's business card. When you first start your journey with ranked League of Legends gameplay, you’ll have to play through 10 placement games to determine your starting rank. Remember that ranking starts over with every season of LoL, which makes you repeat the whole process. There are 9 ranks in League of Legends, starting from the lowest:

  • Iron,
  • Bronze,
  • Silver,
  • Gold,
  • Platinum,
  • Diamond,
  • Master,
  • Grandmaster,
  • Challenger.

Ranks in League of Legends

Each rank between Iron and Diamond has four divisions, the other three higher ranks are not separated by divisions. To go from, for example, Silver to Gold, you’ll probably be starting with Silver IV, until you reach Silver I and then start with division IV in Gold rank. This may sound pretty complicated, but actually isn’t at all!

To reach a higher division, you have to hit 100 LP (League Points), by winning LoL ranked matches. Once you get to division I, you’re starting promotion, in which you’ve got to win at least 3 out of 5 games. If you fulfill the following conditions, you will get to the higher rank, but if you lose, you’ll go back to an appropriate LP mark and have to climb back into the promos. You can also get demoted if you unluckily get into a streak of losing games. This happens when you hit 0 League Points on your current division.

Remember, there are two types of ranked games - ranked solo/duo and ranked flex. Gameplay is completely the same, it just regulates the amount of players that you get into a queue with.

So, how can you rank up faster?

Now that you know how LoL ranking works, let’s move on to the main topic. How to rank up faster? Here are some proven methods to do so!

Play games in League of Legends

  1. Play a lot of matches. The more matches you play, the more you learn. Also, with a bigger amount of matches played there's a bigger possibility of winning, which is very important to get League Points that help you climb into another division.
  2. Meet other players on a similar level to yours, or play with friends. Playing alone for sure makes you more focused, but let’s be honest, there’s nothing more fun than sharing gaming time with others! Also, when you join forces with another person, or even a whole group of people, you get a lot more determined to win. So don’t be a loner wolf, get someone to get through this with you!
  3. Try every champion and lane to see what suits you the best. Okay, “every” is a big word, but try to play on every lane and test as many champs as possible, so you can try your hand and see what works best for you. Why would you keep playing support, when jungle turns out to be your cup of tea? Don’t be afraid to try new things!
  4. Remember about runes and a good build! Even if you get a champ perfectly chosen for your skills, your gameplay won’t be successful without good enhancements that runes give you. If you don’t know much about build, search for apps that will help you, for example - well known to the League of Legend community - Blitz. A good buff gives you bigger chances to win!
  5. Try making your gameplay more satisfying by adding skins to the champs you’re playing. This is of course satire. But seriously, skins for sure make every match better. Anyway, let’s be honest - they are expensive. If you don’t like spending money on games, here’s something that may help you! Click here to get free LoL Riot Points, that you can later exchange for skins.
  6. The last tip coming straight from the heart from another League of Legends player. Stay calm and don’t let the negativity of others affect you. When you notice negative behavior of other players from your, or opposite team, don’t react the same way. Simply mute the chat and don’t get distracted from your goal!
