The Tiger is known as the king of all beasts in China but did you know it wasn't like that in the past? As a Chinese zodiac sign, the Tiger is a symbol of power and bravery but it didn't have it easy from the start since the lion was always considered to be the king. How did it happen that Tiger won the throne and what occasions did League of Legends prepare to celebrate it's victory? Here’s what you need to know about League of Legends’ Lunar Revel 2022 event.

History of the Tiger as a Chinese zodiac sign

Tiger used to be a weak animal that was not included in the Chinese zodiac. Before he learned the hunting skills from a black cat, the lion was the king of all animals. But the lion was aggressive and vicious, so the Jade emperor was worried about the harmony of all signs. The tiger proved himself by fighting other signs and defeating them, so the Jade emperor rewarded the Tiger by painting a Chinese sign for "king" 王 [wang] on his forehead.

History of Lunar Revel

The Lunar Revel event was created to celebrate the Lunar New Year according to the Asian Lunar calendar that is still cultivated in China. League of Legends created the event on February 1st 2011, the year of the Rabbit, and has organised it every year ever since. For this year's edition, the developers decided to go all out and prepared many amazing surprises for players.

We can expect 12 new skins - including two Prestige skins. There are going to be special missions, rewards and much more. But let's start with the skins.

Skins

The Lunar Revel skins are going to be split into two lines:  Firecracker set and Porcelain set. While Firecracker has energising, bright colors reminding us of festive fireworks the Porcelain skinline is more elegant, smoothing with white and blue colors inspired by traditional chinese patterns.

That is why the ones who will get the Firecracker set are: Diana, Sett, Tristana, Xin Zhao and Teemo who suit the burning excitement of the festival. Amumu, Lissandra, Ezreal, Lux and Kindred, on the other hand, will receive the distinguished Porcelain set. Moreover, Lux and Xayah are getting the Prestigious skins.

Missions

The missions are still to be revealed, but there is a possibility Riot Games will repeat the same model as the year before, which is: events to complete missions, gain points and earn rewards. Surely there are going to be missions for Premium Pass players since there are Prestigious skins in the new set.

Rewards

There still isn’t much information about the rewards, however we can predict that they are going to be: Prestigious Points, chromas for the new skins, summoner icons and Little Legends eggs in the event reward shops to buy for TFT players.

Start date

Since the first edition the event is organised around the time of Lunar New Year in China which is the end of January and beginning of February. The exact release date is not revealed yet, but we can expect it to come with LoL Patch 12.2 which has a release date set for January 20, 2022.
