Fans of League of Legends are well aware that this popular MOBA game frequently receives new patches. These updates sometimes introduce new champions, new skins of the characters, changes to the game's balance, new abilities and much more. Riot Games, the game’s publisher, has decided that patches should appear once every two weeks, usually in the middle of the week. They are often tested in the LoL public beta environment (PBE) some two weeks before they are officially released.
Patches for LoL are always a major part of the game. Sometimes the next League of Legends patch can introduce major new events (e.g., during the holidays) and new content, while some other patches might focus more on a basic set of changes or new buffs and nerfs, slightly altering how the game is played. That's why it's worth knowing when a new LoL patch will come out.

Some say that this patch is for professional players—just in time before the World Championships.
What’s the next patch for League of Legends?
According to the upcoming League patch notes and the official game Twitter, four champions will be boosted, six more will be nerfed. 12.18 will be the last patch that will change how the heroes are played before the upcoming World Championships. According to the PBE patch notes the changes will be rather minor.
Maokai will be slightly reworked, to encourage more people picking this character, with Hecarim, Kayn and Nocturne receiving some slight nerfs. Ashe and the blind monk Lee Sin will be boosted. Luckily, many mainstays in the LoL, like Sylas, will be left unchanged. When is the upcoming League patch coming out? On the first day of autumn in the northern hemisphere - September 21.
Release time
League of Legends does not have a specific fixed update time. Depending on the size of the patch and server load, patches come out mid-week, usually on Wednesday. This is also the time for the beta: LoL PBE update.
Server maintenance ends at 6 AM EST, which is more or less when the patch goes out. This is not official data, but new changes appear around 6-9 AM EST.

Why do patches have to be updated every two weeks
Due to the number of balance issues and constant changes in the game, patches are almost always updated every two weeks. This allows Riot Games to quickly make changes when needed to make the game interesting and not make it too predictable. The next League patch always tends to be controversial within the community.
With the beta test, on the PBE server, player-testers can try out all the upcoming changes, new skins and other system changes, even before the update is officially released. If problems arise, the LoL PBE update could be delayed by a day or two.
