DOTA 2 - heroes’ amount

How many heroes are there in Dota 2? As of Summer 2022, there are now 123 heroes in DOTA 2, and the newest one is Primal Beast. Most of these characters are derived from heroes that already existed in the first Defense of the Ancients game - which was a modification to an old strategy game called Warcraft, set in the same world as the classic MMO WoW.

Dota 2 originally had fewer than 46 heroes when the standalone came out as a beta, but 77 additional heroes have been added over the course of more than a decade, bringing the total number of Dota 2 heroes to 123. The Primal Beast, a monster inspired by Godzilla and Tarrasque monster that debuted in February 2022, is DOTA 2's newest hero. Marci, Dawnbreaker and Hoodwink, in that order, are also recent arrivals to DOTA 2. New hero units usually arrive at the beginning of season - 2 or 3 per year.

The heroes are divided into groups based on their affiliation and basic characteristics, namely strength, agility and intelligence. Dota does not place as much emphasis on lore and world-building as League of Legends, its main competitor. The primary world-building element that is relevant to the game is the division of heroes into the factions of the Radiant and the Dire. Heroes are often referred to by titles and generally don't even have names, such as Drow Ranger or Lone Druid.
